What We Rig

Event Signage

We rig temporary event signs, truss-mounted branding and venue directional boards for exhibitions, launches, festivals and corporate functions. Our crews work with sign makers across Cape Town and Johannesburg, handling the heavy lifting, access planning and safe removal after the event.

Event Signage

Temporary event signage that goes up on time

Event signage needs to look clean, stay put in changing weather, and come down without damaging the venue or the sign face. We handle the rigging side only, which means your sign shop keeps control of the design and print while our team manages the installation, access and takedown. That keeps roles clear on site and avoids crossed wires when the build starts early, or the venue changes the access route at the last minute.

We install directional boards, suspended branding, stage side signage, hanging banners, entrance panels and temporary wayfinding for halls, marquees, stadiums and outdoor activations. In Cape Town, salt air and wind off the coast can be a factor even for short events, so we check fixings and loading carefully. In Gauteng, late afternoon storms and high mast areas around large venues need the same attention to detail.

Our crews are scaffold trained and first-aid trained, with practical experience on exhibition floors, loading bays and live event sites. If a venue needs work done after hours or in a tight changeover window, we plan for it in advance so the sign is ready when doors open.

Sizes, formats and fixing options

Event signage comes in many forms, so the fixing method matters as much as the sign itself. We work with lightweight boards, framed panels, fabric graphics, rigid panels and banner systems, with support chosen to suit the weight, wind exposure and venue rules. If the sign is being hung above public walkways, the rigging must allow for safe clearance and controlled access.

Common format ranges are below. Final sizing depends on the structure, viewing distance and transport access at the venue:

  • Small directional panels from 300 x 600 mm up to 600 x 900 mm
  • Medium hanging signs from 1 m x 2 m to 1.2 m x 3 m
  • Large truss-mounted branding panels up to 2 m x 6 m or more, depending on load and structure
  • Double-sided boards for entrances, foyers and concourses
  • Suspended banners and tensioned fabric graphics for halls and marquees

We can work with eyelets, clamp systems, cable suspensions, brackets, chain, rope, threaded fixings and access hardware, depending on the structure and the venue rules. When a sign needs to be viewed from both sides, we allow for balance and torsion so it hangs correctly and does not twist during the event.

Where event signage works best

This product suits indoor and outdoor events where clear brand presence and directions are needed for a short period. We often rig signs for exhibitions, trade shows, conferences, product launches, sporting events, festivals, roadshows, award evenings and corporate family days. The same applies to venue signage for registration areas, stage wings, sponsor walls and parking directions.

Because we work only on the rigging side, our service fits neatly into the production schedule of sign makers, event contractors and exhibition stand builders. If your client needs a last-minute board moved 2 metres to clear a camera shot, or a banner removed before breakdown starts, we can handle that without stepping into the sign shop’s scope.

For outdoor use, we take the local conditions seriously. Wind loading, rain, dusty conditions and uneven ground can all affect the fix. In Johannesburg and the East Rand, open sites often need extra bracing and tighter timing around storms. In Somerset West, Paarl and coastal Cape Town venues, corrosion resistance and weather checks are a must. A sign that is fine in the workshop can behave very differently once it is over a concourse or between two truss points, so site checks matter.

Install, power and site preparation

Our installation process starts with a site survey or a lift plan if the sign needs elevated access. We check the structure, the fixings, the route to the install point, and whether scaffold, a platform or controlled lift access is the safest option. If the venue has restrictions on drilling, water ballast, vehicle access or overhead work, we plan around those rules before the crew arrives.

Some event signs are purely mechanical, while others include light boxes or illuminated sections. When lighting is involved, power must be available at the correct point and within the event electrician’s plan. We do not supply gas, but if your temporary display includes flame effects, heaters or catering nearby, the event organiser should confirm the safety spacing and approvals well before bump-in. For powered signs, cable runs need to be protected so they do not become a trip hazard or get caught during set-up.

  • Confirm the final sign size, weight and hanging points before fabrication
  • Check ceiling height, beam positions and the available access route
  • Confirm whether the venue allows drilling, clamping or suspended fixings
  • Allow for power points, cable management and any lighting control
  • Schedule install and removal times around loading bay access and show hours

When timing is tight, we can work with the sign maker’s team sheet and the event producer’s run of show so the signage goes in at the right point, not too early and not too late.

Removal, storage and post event servicing

Temporary signage should be removed carefully so the next event is not dealing with damaged hardware or marks on the structure. Our crews handle end-of-event takedown, unrigging and safe lowering of panels, banners and frames. If the sign needs to be stored for a later function, we can assist with inspection before it goes back into circulation.

We also service event signs that are reused across a season, including tightening fixings, checking wear on straps and hardware, replacing damaged fittings and sorting out minor distortions in frames or brackets. Coastal humidity can leave fasteners looking fine one week and tired the next, so routine checks help prevent failures on site.

If a sign shifts after strong wind, knocks from a trolley or last-minute venue changes, we can attend for emergency callouts where access is safe and approved. A quick fix on site is often the difference between a tidy event and a rushed one.

What to check before you order

The best event signage jobs start with clear information. If you are a sign maker quoting for a client, the more detail you have upfront, the better the rigging plan will be. A missing measurement, unclear fixing point or late venue restriction can lead to delays and extra cost, so it is worth asking the right questions early.

Before ordering, check the following:

  • Final finished size and thickness of the sign
  • Single-sided or double-sided display
  • Indoor or outdoor use
  • Exact venue, hall, foyer or outdoor location
  • Required install date, bump-in window and removal time
  • Any height limits, load limits or access restrictions from the venue

It also helps to know if the sign will be exposed to wind, whether it must clear public movement areas, and if the venue wants proof of safety training or access planning. If the job is in Paarden Eiland, Bellville, Sandton, Midrand or the Johannesburg CBD, we can plan the work around local traffic, loading access and venue timeframes so the crew arrives prepared. That saves everyone time, and avoids the kind of last-minute scramble that turns a simple job into a mess.

Questions we get asked

Do you supply the printed sign as well?

No. We handle rigging, installation, removal and servicing for sign makers and event contractors. The sign shop keeps control of the artwork and fabrication.

Can you work with suspended signs over public areas?

Yes, provided the venue structure, load limits and access conditions are suitable. We plan the fixings, clearance and lifting method before the crew goes in.

What do you need before quoting an event sign install?

We need the finished size, weight if known, venue name, install and removal times, whether it is indoors or outdoors, and any access or safety rules from the venue.
