Rigging Services

Our service offering covers the practical rigging work sign makers need on site. We can assist from early planning through installation, removal and aftercare access tasks.

Rigging Services

What our rigging crews do on site

Our crews support sign makers with the physical work needed to get signage in place and keep it serviceable. That includes installing new signs, taking down old ones, changing billboard faces, moving signs to new positions and reaching lighting or fixings that are too high for normal access. We also carry out maintenance visits and emergency callouts when a sign is unsafe or has been damaged by wind, power cuts or site issues.

We work in Paarden Eiland, Bellville, Somerset West, Paarl, Johannesburg CBD, Sandton, Midrand and the East Rand, with crews set up for city sites, retail parks, industrial areas and taller façade jobs. The work is planned around site rules, municipal permits where needed, and the realities of load-shedding, coastal humidity and limited access times.

How to choose the right service

The right service depends on what needs to happen on site and how much access is available. If the sign is new and ready for fitting, installation is the usual route. If the sign must come down first, removal or relocation may be the better fit. If the issue is bulbs, wiring, fixings or a dirty face that needs attention at height, servicing or lighting access is often enough, no need for a full strip out.

  • Installation for new signs, fascia work and replacement units
  • Removal for unsafe, outdated or damaged signs
  • Servicing for access to lights, fixings and routine upkeep
  • Lift planning and site surveys for tricky access or heavy pieces

If you are not sure which option fits, we can inspect the site and advise on the safest way to get the job done. That saves time and avoids sending the wrong crew or equipment.

Access planning, safety and lifting control

Good rigging starts before anyone goes up. We look at access points, vehicle space, overhead hazards, surface conditions and how the sign will be lifted or lowered. Our teams are safety trained, scaffold trained and first-aid trained, with the site planning needed for work around traffic, pedestrians and active business premises.

  • Site surveys before work starts
  • Lift planning for large or awkward signs
  • Scaffold access and platform work where the site allows it
  • Edge protection and exclusion areas where needed
  • Coordination with other contractors on live sites

In Cape Town the wind and coastal salt can change the plan quickly, while in Johannesburg the main issues are height, traffic, tighter loading bays and busy operating hours. We factor that in from the start so the job does not stall halfway through.

Installation and removal for sign makers

We install and remove signage for sign makers who need a dependable rigging crew without handing over their client relationship. That means we take direction from the sign shop, follow the approved brief and leave the branding, client communication and sign fabrication with you. We stay in our lane, which is rigging only.

For new installs, we can assist with positioning, fixing, lifting and final placement. For removals, we work carefully around cladding, power connections and reuseable components so the sign can be stored, repaired or replaced with less waste. If a sign is due for relocation, we handle the take-down and re-fit in a way that suits the new site conditions.

When callouts and maintenance are the better option

Not every job needs a full installation crew. Sometimes the issue is a failed light, a loose bracket, water ingress, damaged fixings or a sign that has shifted after a storm. In those cases our maintenance visits and emergency callouts are often the most practical route, especially when the site still needs to stay open.

  • Failed lighting or access to internal fittings
  • Loose signs after wind or vibration
  • Routine check-ups for high and hard to reach signs
  • Emergency make-safe work before a full repair

We aim to reduce downtime and keep your customer informed through your own process. If a sign needs more than a quick fix, we can return with the right access plan and crew mix. It is usually quicker that way, and a lot safer.

Working with sign shops across the Western Cape and Gauteng

Our service is built for sign makers, printers and fabrication teams that need an outside rigging crew they can rely on across the Western Cape and Gauteng. Whether it is one façade in the CBD or a string of branch signs across multiple towns, we bring the same practical setup, clear scheduling and site awareness to each job.

Gareth van der Merwe leads the business, with Thandi Mokoena coordinating operations, Liam Jacobs supervising rigging teams, Sibusiso Dlamini handling safety, Ayesha Daniels on client liaison and Pieter Coetzee managing fleet and access equipment. That structure helps keep jobs moving when timing is tight and the site is not forgiving.

If you need rigging support for a sign job, send the details through the enquiry form on our contact page and we will assess the access, equipment and timing needed.
